Lois Lowry

In the spirit of freedom, today's read aloud is The Giver by Lois Lowry. I had the honor to hear Lois talk about this book and share some stories in her life. She spoke of times before writing the book where she was visiting her father with alzheimer's disease and times where answering questions he asked, meant some sad memories for all of them, including a loss of her sister. Lois thought about what types of memories would be worth keeping if you could only have some, and she thought about consequences above the gains. So in the spirit of the 4th of July and freedom and a book that has faced censorship too, I think it is the perfect firecracker for today!

Fans will want to read...
